As measures to counter the spread of Covid-19, China will apply category B infectious disease control methods, not category A as before. The authorities considered this an important adjustment in the country's epidemic prevention and control policy. This was announced today, December 27, by the Xinhua News Agency with reference to the State Committee for Health Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
The Chinese name for Covid-19 "novel coronavirus pneumonia" has been changed to "novel coronavirus infection," according to a statement from the agency.
The document notes that in accordance with the Law of the PRC on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases, from January 8, 2023, China will downgrade the response level for this disease from category A to category B. In addition, in accordance with the Covid Border Sanitary Quarantine Law of the PRC -19 will no longer be among the infectious diseases requiring the introduction of quarantine supervision.
Covid-19 is currently classified as a category B infectious disease in China, but it is still subject to category A infectious disease prevention and control measures.
According to the Joint Covid-19 Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, given the recent mutations of the virus, the epidemiological situation and the basics of China's response to the epidemic, the country has already created the conditions for making this adjustment.
Thus, the Chinese authorities will lift quarantine measures for those infected with coronavirus, stop identifying people who had close contacts with the sick, and designate high and low risk areas.
Those infected will receive classified treatment according to the severity of their disease. At the same time, the policy in the field of medical provision, the policy of testing for coronavirus, as well as the frequency of publication of information about the epidemic and its content will be adjusted in a timely manner.
In addition, the document notes that quarantine infection control measures for persons arriving in the country and imported goods will be lifted.
After the adjustment, China's epidemic prevention and control efforts will focus on public health and prevention of severe cases. Appropriate measures will be taken to maximize the protection of human life and health and to minimize the impact of the epidemic on socio-economic development.
