The President of Turkey is the head of state and head of government. He takes office after the general elections, and usually the person who wins the office gets the name “the people’s head.” The first president in Turkey's history was Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who is known as the founder of the modern state.
Mustafa Ataturk remained in office from 1927 until his death in 1937. This man of state transformed from the Islamic regime that ruled the region during the Ottoman Empire to a secular one, the same system that still operates in Turkey, but somewhat less strict.
