All presidents of Syria throughout history : The President of Syria is the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, and it is the highest position in the country, as the person who occupies this position enjoys wide powers, including the appointment and dismissal of the Prime Minister and members of the Council of Ministers, and so on, and the following is a list of all presidents in the history of Syria.
Syrian presidents
Since the establishment of the office of the head of state in Syria in 1922, 19 people have occupied this position, the first of whom was Subhi Barakat, and the last of them was Bashar al-Assad, who succeeded his father, Hafez al-Assad.
The president is nominated for a term of up to 7 years, after which he can be elected for multiple terms.
This happened with Bashar al-Assad, who succeeded in the 2000 elections, and later succeeded in winning all subsequent elections.
Bashar al-Assad is the nineteenth president in the history of Syria, a Syrian politician born and raised in the city of Damascus.
He graduated in 1988 from the Faculty of Medicine at Medina University, and began his political career in 1994 after the death of his older brother.
In the 2000 elections, Bashar al-Assad received 97 percent of the vote, and in 2007, he obtained the same percentage.
In the last elections held in 2014, he received 88 percent of the vote.
