Following the “budget” smartphone , Apple introduced a new version of the iPad Air tablet. Despite the similarity with last year's model, the gadget has significantly increased in computing power - it is built on the basis of a "laptop" chip and has acquired other improvements in terms of hardware characteristics.
The key difference between the tablet and its predecessor was the processor model. The updated iPad is based on the Apple M1 platform, the same as last year's MacBook and more expensive iPad Air. The design of the device has not changed. The 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2360x1640 pixels (264 ppi) and a brightness of up to 500 nits supports the second generation Apple Pencil stylus.
Another feature of the model was the support for 5G networks with a declared connection speed of up to 3.5 Gb / s in ideal conditions. In addition, the tablet is equipped with eSIM and Wi-Fi 6 modules, as well as a universal USB Type-C connector (up to 10 Gb / s) and stereo speakers. The gadget is presented in two versions with an internal storage capacity of 64 GB and 256 GB without a slot for memory cards.
The tablet's 12-megapixel wide-angle camera supports Center Stage. It automatically tracks a person's movements, keeping them in focus as they move. During group video calls, the gadget smoothly zooms out to capture several people at once in the frame. The module is also capable of scanning documents and working with AR content.
The declared autonomy of the tablet is up to 10 hours in the mode of watching video via Wi-Fi and up to 9 hours in the same scenario when connected to the network via mobile Internet. To unlock the device, there is a Touch ID fingerprint scanner integrated into the power button. The novelty is running the operating system iPadOS 15.
iPad Air 5 will be available in Space Grey, Starlight, Pink, Purple and Blue. The price of new items will be from $599 for the version with Wi-Fi and from $749 for the model with support for mobile networks. Pre-orders will open on March 11, and the start of sales is scheduled for March 18, 2022.
