Another device shown at the Apple presentation was the Mac Studio computer. Despite its modest dimensions, it surpasses the professional Mac Pro model in terms of power, is equipped with an impressive number of interfaces by the standards of Apple technology and a powerful cooling system.
The dimensions of the novelty are comparable to three Mac minis of previous generations stacked on top of each other. The computer is presented in two versions with different processors. Top model with 64 GB of unified memory (maximum 128 GB) is based on the Apple M1 Ultra chip (16 performance cores and 4 energy efficient) with a 48-core GPU, 32-core AI neuroblock and 800 Gb / s memory bandwidth . The amount of SSD-drive - 1, 2, 4 or 8 TB at the user's choice.
A more affordable option is based on the SoC Apple M1 Max, all the characteristics of which are half as modest. The amount of unified memory in this model is 32 GB, expandable up to 64 GB, and solid-state drive - from 512 GB to 8 TB. According to the vendor, even the younger model is 2.5 times faster than a 27-inch iMac with a Core i9 processor, and one and a half times faster than a Mac Pro with a 16-core Intel Xeon.
In any of the configurations, the novelty has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 modules, four Thunderbolt 4 ports and a pair of USB-A on the rear wall, as well as two USB Type-C on the front panel (in the version based on the M1 Ultra, they also support the Thunderbolt interface 4). In addition, there is an Ethernet port, an HDMI connector, a 3.5 mm audio jack and an SDXC memory card slot.
The cooling system of the device includes two large fans, which, according to Apple, operate almost silently. Cold air is drawn into the case through the bottom, while heated air is expelled through the perforated back wall.
Like other devices presented at the event, the Apple Mac Studio will go on sale on March 18, 2022. The price of the base model on the M1 Max chip starts at $1999 for the minimum configuration of 32/512 GB. The older version with the M1 Ultra processor will cost customers $3,999 for a version with 64 GB of RAM and a 1 TB drive.
