Hackers stole 190 GB of secret data from Samsung

Following the hacking of NVIDIA's servers , the Lapsus$ hacker group announced an attack on Samsung that leaked 190GB of the tech giant's confidential information. Encryption data and other information about the latest vendor devices were made publicly available.

The leak reportedly includes "source code for every trusted applet installed on all Samsung devices" and "confidential source code from Qualcomm." In addition, the archive leaked to the network allegedly includes algorithms for biometric unlocking operations and the source code for Samsung Accounts, a login service associated with Samsung mobile devices.

Bleeping Computer reports that the torrent file posted on the network had more than 400 peers, and included a text file describing the content available for download:

  • Source code dump and related data about security/protection/Knox/bootloader/trusted apps and various other items
  • Source code dump and related device security and encryption data
  • Various repositories from Samsung Github: mobile security design, Samsung account backend, Samsung pass backend/interface, and SES (Bixby, Smart Things, Store)

It is assumed that the theft of data was carried out for the purpose of ransom, but network sources do not report information about the requirements of hackers. Samsung representatives did not comment on the incident.
