The US Treasury Department has banned US citizens from carrying out transactions with the Central Bank, the Treasury and the National Wealth Fund of Russia, according to a statement from the Treasury.
"This will immobilize any assets of the Central Bank located in the United States or in the possession of US citizens, wherever they are," the Treasury said.
According to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the new sanctions will limit the funds that Putin and his inner circle depend on to support Russia's military actions in Ukraine.
It is noted that new US sanctions against the Central Bank of the Russian Federation will make it impossible for Russia to try to support the currency, limiting the global supply of the ruble and access to reserves that Russia can try to exchange to support the ruble.
The Ministry of Finance also imposed sanctions on three organizations that manage one of Russia's key funds - the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), its management and subsidiary companies.
