First OneWeb satellite launch in 2022 will take place in February

The first launch of OneWeb spacecraft (SC) in the coming year will take place from the Kourou Cosmodrome in French Guiana. This is reported by TASS, referring to statements by Dmitry Loskutov, Director General of Glavkosmos JSC (part of the state corporation Roscosmos).

The OneWeb project, we recall, is aimed at forming a constellation of several hundred small satellites to provide Internet access anywhere in the world. Such devices operate in the Ka and Ku bands of the radio frequency spectrum.

" The first [in the coming year] launch of the OneWeb spacecraft is planned from the Guiana Space Center in February 2022, " said Mr. Loskutov.

Meanwhile, on December 27, at 16:10 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1b rocket with the Fregat upper stage and the next batch of OneWeb spacecraft are to be launched from Baikonur. The carrier has already been installed at the Vostok launch complex.

As noted by Roskosmos, for the first time from Baikonur, 36 OneWeb satellites will be launched instead of the previous batches of 34 pieces. For this, flight trajectories from this cosmodrome were modified in order to increase the number of vehicles launched at a time.
