Xiaomi abandons the Mi brand

In the future, Xiaomi fans will not be able to purchase smartphones Mi 12 or Mi Note 11. Most recently, the company introduced the flagship Mix 4 - as it turned out, it is already deprived of the “prefix” Mi, and now the company announced that the new models will be named in accordance with an alternative scheme.

As representatives of the manufacturer told the well-known portal XDA-Developers, the changes are permanent - potential buyers will really not see the new Xiaomi Mi 12 on sale either at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next. Instead, the company will introduce the Xiaomi 12.

Xiaomi abandons the Mi brand

For the Xiaomi ecosystem, this is a very significant change, since Mi has been used since the very birth of the company - the first smartphone was Mi 1, and even before it appeared the software shell for Android, MIUI. Non-smartphone products, including tablets, wearables, laptops, and other electronics, have also spoken of the Mi name.

According to XDA, in the "home" Chinese market, some products have already gotten rid of the Mi branding and it looks like a similar policy will apply around the world.

At one time, one of the founders and head of Xiaomi Lei Jun (Lei Jun) said that Mi "stands for" as Mobile Internet and Mission Impossible (mission impossible). Apparently, having got out on the first place in the ranking of the largest smartphone manufacturers, the manufacturer considered the mission accomplished. So far, there has been no official interpretation of the refusal of the Mi brand by Xiaomi representatives.
