Since the release of Windows 10, Microsoft has allowed free upgrades to a new OS from a previous version. The same will apply to Windows 11, but among other things, the company will allow not only Windows 10 users to update, but also those who are still using Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. There is, however, a nuance. To move from Windows 7 to 11, you will need to completely reinstall the system without saving files. Alternatively, you can first upgrade to Windows 10 and then upgrade to Windows 11. In this case, all files and settings will be preserved.
Among other things, users will be able to downgrade to Windows 10 within 10 days after installing Windows 11. For some users (especially those with low-power systems), this feature can be very useful.
Obviously, some users are still using old OS only because of weak hardware components. It is quite possible that in practice the update will not be possible. In particular, this applies to corporate and industrial systems, many of which also run on older versions of Windows.
Windows 11 requirements can be viewed here . In addition to 4 GB of RAM, you will need at least 64 GB of free hard disk / SSD space. In addition, an internet connection is required to complete the installation of Windows 11 Home Edition.
