Analytical agency Sensor Tower announced that the messenger has crossed the milestone - in the entire history of the application's existence, it has been downloaded more than 1 billion times. The creators went to such a result for almost eight years, having noticeably accelerated in 2021.
According to analysts, the surge in interest in Telegram coincided with a change in the privacy policy of its main competitor, the WhatsApp messenger. Due to the reluctance to share personal data with Facebook, users began to look for an alternative messaging service. Earlier, representatives of the company noted that at the peak of the discussion of innovations in WhatsApp in just 72 hours, the Telegram audience grew by more than 25 million accounts.
According to Sensor Tower, India has the largest number of app installs (22%). The second place in terms of popularity of the messenger is occupied by Russia (10%), and Indonesia closes the top three (8%). Since the beginning of the year, Telegram has been installed 214.7 million times.
Thus, the messenger became the fifteenth application in the world with over 1 billion downloads. In addition to Telegram, the billionaires club includes clients from WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Spotify, Netflix and Facebook Messenger.
