Facebook removes dozens of "super-distributors" of vaccine disinformation from social media

According to Facebook Inc, the company has removed more than three and a half dozen pages spreading misinformation about COVID-19 vaccination. This happened after Washington called on media companies to tighten controls over the spread of false data related to the pandemic.

Companies like YouTube, Twitter and Google have been heavily criticized by the US administration for the alarming amount of misinformation spreading on their platforms - seriously affecting the rate of vaccination in the country, as many are extremely hostile to the very idea of "vaccination".

A recent report from the Center for Combating Digital Hate (CCDH) found that only 12 social media accounts are the main sources of vaccine misinformation. While Facebook questioned the data analysis methodology in the report, the company said yesterday that it had already removed more than three dozen pages, Facebook and Instagram groups associated with the 12 individuals' accounts.

According to the social network, some additional sanctions were imposed on a couple of dozen pages, groups or accounts associated with "super-distributors."

Basically, the American authorities are fighting posts that vaccines against COVID-19 are ineffective, claims that vaccines contain microchips and even statements that vaccination causes female infertility.
