Sony Adds M.2 Slot Support To PS5 Internal Storage

Sony has added support for the M.2 slot to the PlayStation 5 file system through a previously released beta update. This now allows a PCIe 4.0 compatible SSD to be connected via this slot. If necessary, you will need to update the storage system of your gaming device.

The addition of a new feature is essential for gamers. PlayStation 5 only allows you to install games to internal storage, because external storage connects through a slower interface and cannot guarantee the performance you need for games like internal storage.

The introduction of support for the M.2 slot to the PlayStation 5 file system translates the SSDs connected through this slotto the number of fast storage systems. This allows for up to 825GB of internal storage space, of which 667.2GB will be available for gaming.

Sony recommends that gamers choose PCIe 4.0 SSDs with sequential read speeds of 5500 Mbps and above for M.2 connections. At the same time, not all drives that meet these requirements are certified for compatibility with PS5 yet.

Seagate is among the companies that have certified. She has confirmed that her 500GB to 4TB FireCuda 530 SSD is compatible with the PS5.

At the same time, numerous models of Corsair, Sabrent and Western Digital are not yet included in their number, although they are not inferior in their characteristics.

Sony also notes that some games may degrade the performance of M.2 SSDs, but no details have been provided.
