Snapdragon 888 Plus is official! Here's Qualcomm's new top-of-the-range SoC

The announcement was made during the technological event Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2021, completely virtual, and in which we have been getting to know some new products. Among these, the SoC Qualcomm now stands out, appearing in the best Android smartphones.

Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 888 Plus SoC has arrived


The company based in San Diego, United States of America, unveiled this new platform for mobile devices that stands out, compared to its predecessor - the Snapdragon 888 - in the maximum processing frequency (3 GHz) of the larger core and by the AI ​​engine.

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888 Plus the biggest performance boost is in the AI ​​engine - up to 20% improvement in its performance .


It should be noted that the predecessor - SD888 - was presented by the US company last December. So, about six months later, we now have a new chipset hitting the market during the third quarter of 2021.

There are few differences from the Snapdragon 888 introduced last December with the exception of the larger main core, which now acquires ARM's Cortex-X1 typology. The maximum processing frequency is now 2.995 GHz.

The second considerable difference resides in the artificial intelligence processor, dubbed the Qualcomm Hexagon 780 AI, an already sixth-generation chip. It is capable of delivering up to 32 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second), a solid increase compared to its predecessor that delivered up to 26 TOPS on the Snapdragon 888. Other features and settings remain unchanged.

Finally, both ASUS, Motorola and Xiaomi have already made known that they are interested and will pay attention to this new SoC for Android smartphones. By the end of the third quarter of 2021 they will have new smartphones equipped with the new processor.
