Under a contract with SpaceX, Google will install Starlink terminals in Google's cloud space so that Starlink users can use the cloud space, and Google can provide high-speed network for its cloud customers.
This Google-Starlink cloud will be available by the end of 2021. One of the capabilities of this space is the safe transfer of information around the world and even to remote areas. SpaceX will install the first Starlink terminal at Google's new headquarters in Ohio.
The deal is one of the usual collaborations between Google and SpaceX, in which Google invested about $ 900 million in the private space company in 2015 to cover the company's projects, including Starlink. So far, SpaceX has built about 1,625 Starlink satellites, of which about 1,550 are in orbit. At least 10,000 users from the United States, Canada and several European countries will use the Starlink beta project, and at least $ 500,000 of the 100 users will be future users of the project.
There is a rivalry between Ilan Mask's Starlink project and Jeff Bezos' Kuiper project. Like Starlink, the Kuiper project plans to place about 3,000 satellites in a Starlink-like orbit to provide high-speed Internet worldwide. Now this deal between Google and SpaceX could mark another victory for Google Cloud to compete with Amazon's web service. Amazon announced plans to speed up AWS with the Kuiper project.
Microsoft signed a similar deal with SpaceX last year to upgrade its cloud space, Azure. Azure cloud space also competes with Amazon service, and a contract with SpaceX could help sell Azure to Microsoft users as well as future customers.
