Qualcomm says it will not be attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year. The event will take place in July, but many companies, including Ericsson, Google , IBM, Lenovo , Nokia, Sony, Oracle and Samsung, have announced that they will not physically participate.
Qualcomm in a statement to the website TechCrunch envoy said : "Although appreciative of hygiene and safety are considered by the GSMA at MWC Barcelona, but we came to the conclusion that this virtual presence can be most beneficial for employees and customers to be."
The organizer of the Mobile World Congress had announced that, despite all the restrictions, it would hold the event physically with special protocols. However, the big tech companies have not welcomed the decision and do not intend to physically go to MWC 2021 Barcelona.
The Mobile World Congress was one of the first events to be canceled last year following the outbreak of the Corona virus. Of course, the GSMA planned to hold the event late last year, but travel restrictions prevented it from doing so. However, this year, a limited number of people are scheduled to come to the exhibition site with special arrangements.
Visitors must take a corona test within 72 hours of arriving in Barcelona and give a negative answer. There are also systems at the exhibition site to prevent crowds and people can move around the event with minimal contact.
The Mobile World Congress was canceled last year only when major companies such as LG, Sony, Amazon and ZTE withdrew from the event. Now, although GSMA has not yet announced a response to the MWC plans, it is unlikely that we will soon announce the status of the Mobile World Congress 2021. This year's ceremony will take place from July 7 to 10 in Barcelona, Spain, according to the previous schedule
