Warner Bros. Entertainment announced that the Mortal Kombat film , a cinematic reboot of the games, will be released on April 16, 2021 in theaters and on HBO Max, its subscription service - available in Brazil next year. Directed by Simon McQuoid, production had been moved from March to January, but the pandemic caused the studio to withdraw its debut date.
On April 16, Mortal Kombat enters the arena. It hits theaters and streaming exclusively on HBO Max.
This is the third attempt to bring the famous fighting franchise of games to theaters. The first was in 1995, when Paul WS Anderson, the same director of the Resident Evil film franchise , brought the 'kombatentes' to live-action. In 1997, cinemas received Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, directed by John R. Leonetti.
