In a time of the pandemic, the smartwatch market grew 6% globally in the last quarter (compared to the same period of 2019). According to the Counterpoint Research report, Apple is the industry leader with a clear advantage, and the top five brands cover 66% of the market.
Apple remains the leader, increasing its market share to 28%. One of the main responsible for this small leap will be the launch of the Apple Watch SE at the end of that period.
Who remains in the second position of the segment is Huawei. This increased from 10% to 15% compared to 2019, thanks to the success of its latest smartwatches. This at a time when it slowed down in smartphone sales, due to the constraints of the United States.
Samsung has now managed to reach third place, thanks to the success of the Galaxy Watch 3 that we had the opportunity to test. This beat BBK, and is also ahead of brands like Amazfit, Fitbit or Garmin.
BBK stands at 7% market share, and is followed by Fitbit with 6%. Amazfit stays at 5%, and closes the top 6, which covers two thirds of sales in this segment. Still with some prominence are Garmin with 4% and Fossil with 2%.
In a difficult year for technology companies, it is good to see that the market has not slowed down. Apple remains the owner and owner of a rapidly growing segment, where brands like Huawei are taking the opportunity to stand out more and more. Like the new releases, Xiaomi should in the near future join these accounts more seriously.
