Intel processors are subject to a new vulnerability

Researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and University of Lubeck have discovered a new vulnerability in Intel processors. With the name Spoiler, this resuscita the scandal associated with the Specter and Meltdown.

One of the most disconcerting points of the Spoiler is its way of acting. Being able to act via a JavaScript or website , it can easily access your passwords, encryption keys and other data.

This new vulnerability affects only the North American processors. Therefore, the chips developed by AMD are exempt from this problem. This scenario has already been proven by researchers from the above entities.

Intel processors are now grappling with the new Spoiler vulnerability

According to the data revealed, this is a vulnerability that affects a wide range of Intel processors. In addition, being this at the level of the architecture of the processor, it will not be possible to correct it with a simple software update.

Therefore, they believe that Intel must rethink the architecture of its processors. A scenario that, if implemented, will further increase the gap of its processors vis-à-vis its competitor.

At this time, AMD already develops processors in 7nm lithography. In contrast, Intel still uses the lithograph of 14nm, that is, much more outdated than that of its main competitor.

This is reflected in performance and energy efficiency well below that of AMD processors. All because with the litnography of 7nm, this can put more transistors inside a chip much smaller.

While Intel seems to want to throw the blame for the origin of the Spoiler for programmers, the community does not welcome that excuse. In fact, if that were the case also AMD processors would be affected.

In short, Intel urgently needs to rethink the development of its processors. This is already the second security scandal in recent times and everything indicates that its way of working is at the origin.
