Microsoft believes that later this year, users will have access to the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim game console worth $399.99. The software giant is currently awaiting a decision at the FTC v. Microsoft hearing, and as part of that case, Microsoft has released documents showing that the PS5 Slim will arrive "later this year."
Last year, Insider Gaming reported that Sony was preparing to release a PS5 with a removable disc drive in September 2023. It was claimed that the console will be sold with or without an optical drive, suggesting the possibility of creating a thinner version. Currently, customers can purchase either a PS5 for $499 with a disc drive, or a PS5 Digital Edition without an optical drive for $399 and without the ability to connect an external drive in the future.
Microsoft also predicted the release of a portable version of the PlayStation 5 later this year at a price of less than $300, but the accuracy of this prediction is questionable. It is only known that Sony plans to release a portable device on which it will be possible to run games for PS5, streaming them from the PS5 console.
Microsoft did not provide links to sources, but if the company's information about Sony's planned PlayStation hardware turns out to be correct, this will not be the first time that internal secrets of companies have been disclosed in the FTC v. Microsoft case. Last week, a confidential Sony document was not properly edited, leading to the disclosure of details about the margins Sony shares with publishers, Call of Duty revenue, and even the cost of developing some games.
