Taiwan's chip exports to the U.S. have been growing for 26 months in a row

Statistics from Taiwan's official authorities for May make it clear that the export of semiconductor products from this island to the United States has been growing for 26 months in a row. First, it goes against the downward trend in demand for chips due to their overproduction and recession in the economy. Secondly, this trend contradicts the desire of the United States to reduce its dependence on Taiwan in this area.

Taiwan's chip exports to the U.S. have been growing for 26 months in a row

In annual comparison, as noted by Bloomberg, citing data from the island's Ministry of Finance, purchases of semiconductor components from Taiwan by US customers increased by 9% in May, while shipments to China and Hong Kong fell by 14.3%. The total export of chips from Taiwan in May decreased by 8%, in April the decline did not exceed 7.1%.

If we talk about the export of equipment for the production of chips, then deliveries from Taiwan to the United States increased by 59.3%, while China and Hong Kong received 44.2% less year-on-year. In fact, this speaks to the desire of American customers to strengthen local chip production in the United States. At the same time, the Chinese direction is blocked in every possible way by US sanctions, even when it comes to the supply of equipment from third countries.

On the other hand, China continues to be the main buyer of chips from Taiwan. In May, the share of this country in the structure of core exports increased by a couple of percentage points to 54%. China buys 12 times more integrated circuits in Taiwan than the United States, and equipment for the production of chips - more by a third.
