With iCloud, back up your data and access it from anywhere

iCloud is Apple 's cloud service offered to iOS users . They can back up their data and store it right on the iDevice itself, so it's accessible, via iCloud.com, from anywhere, on any other device that has an Internet connection, such as a Windows PC or Mac OS.

To use it, the user only needs to register using their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, configure the data they want to record in the cloud and then access the service's official website. In it, just log in with the username and password of the registered Apple account. Thus, it is possible to have access to nine tools.

Icons for all of them are displayed on the main iCloud page: Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Reminders, Find My iPhone, Pages , Numbers , and Keynote . They work differently, but their visuals are very similar because they follow the standard established by iOS itself. For those who buy music and videos, backups are made in iTunes .

The first five resources are fully integrated into your mobile device and show the information saved in the device's homonymous functionalities. Users who back up their contacts, emails, notes, reminders and also calendar appointments can access them in the program.

In these tabs, the operation is very similar: on the right side, there is a more colorful menu in which there are navigation options. Right next to it, a gray one, with its gallery of subcategories. In e-mail, for example, in the first one there are the boxes and in the second one the messages inside the selected box are displayed.

In the larger space, always from the center to the left side, the main content is displayed, such as e-mail messages and notes. There are also other functions provided by the software. Search My iPhone, for example, makes it possible for users to find their registered devices.

FIND LOST DEVICES AND CREATE DOCUMENTS

Just access the function, enter email and password, and a list of devices whose registered Apple accounts have that information will appear. It is possible to search for them on the map, to know their exact location, emit a sound signal to find them in your house and also block them if they have been stolen.

Last but not least, there is the iWork package , a kind of Office that Apple offers its users, with Pages ( Word equivalent ), Numbers (Excel) and Keynote ( Powerpoint ). All are still in beta, but they are functional and the user only needs to tap on them to open menus for composing and editing files.

That is, iCloud is a manager for (almost) all of your information stored on Apple's mobile devices. If you have an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, it's worth signing up and taking advantage of the benefits offered. Go to iCloud and check it out!

OUR OPINION

Every user of an iOS mobile device should have an account and enjoy all the benefits offered by iCloud. It offers a series of features to always be close to the most important data on your smartphone or tablet. The service is completely free, simple to use and very beautiful.

We tested iCloud synchronization between an iPad and an iPhone 5 with a Windows PC. The results were great. Data transfer is fast and opening the shared contents is very simple. The look based on iOS 7 was very pleasing, making it cleaner and more visually attractive.

The fact that all features allow not only viewing but also editing content is great. The iWork software package, then, works very well for anyone who is that type of business user, who needs to be aware of xls, doc and ppt files. Not to mention Search My iPhone, an excellent and very functional resource.

The exact location of the device is informed extremely quickly and the sending of sound alerts is great for those who tend to lose their device at home – like forgetting it in the bathroom or among the sofa cushions, for example. It is worth noting, of course, the fact that the program supports the Portuguese language.

It just lacks an option to store multimedia content – like iBooks books, for example. For those who buy music and videos, backups are made in iTunes. For photos, there's Photo Share. It's only missing a way to share books, like on Kindle. However, this does not change the fact that iCloud is an excellent helper for anyone who has an iDevice. Check out!

PROS

  • Backup of multiple useful information
  • Possibility to edit saved files
  • Very nice look
  • device tracker
  • Portuguese language supported

CONS

  • Does not store multimedia content
