New adventure from Cal Kestis arrives in March
About to return as Cal Kestis, actor Cameron Monaghan compared the new release Star Wars Jedi: Survivor with its predecessor, Fallen Order (2019). For the star, the new adventure is more “deep and dark”.
In an interview with Game Informer , the actor explained that Cal is now an adult who must deal with more serious consequences:
“In the first one, we followed someone who was a boy becoming a man. He doesn't have a safety net (…), and part of being an adult is having to live with the decisions you make. And it's challenging. You can be affected by them, and they can hunt you down.”
According to him, some of Survivor 's conflicts arise from the friction of interactions between the Jedi and his new family:
“I think a lot of the story of the first game was 'what happens when you lose your family and how do you find a new one?' In this story we say 'ok, you have a family. But when the circumstances around you change, what happens when you all have different opinions on how to deal with them? What happens when you bring stress to your family and your relationships?”
Monaghan claims that the idea of putting Cal Kestis on a more dense and risky journey came up in the first conversations after the success of Fallen Order :
“It's something I've always wanted to explore with the character. It was a conversation that we had immediately after the first game, which is: how do we put him in situations that are challenging and which are the ones that are going to get him to a point where maybe he breaks? How do we get him to that point and what do we do next? What is the most exciting story where we can find adventure and also something that is deeper, darker, intricate and complex? I think we are asking big questions with this game.”
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor arrives March 17, 2023 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
