But One UI 5 is much more than Android 13. As usual, the company has decided to provide the new version of its customization layer with a large number of new features and changes specifically aimed at the models that make up its catalog. Many of those new features were announced during SDC 2022, and we are going to review them all.

3D icons, customizable lock screen and much more in One UI 5

Samsung announced One UI 5 as a version of its software aimed at giving the user more control over how the interface looks. To do this, changes have been introduced such as a new fully customizable lock screen , which allows you to choose the type of clock, the wallpaper and other aspects, with a long press on the lock screen itself.

Both the interface and the way in which the configuration mode is accessed is very reminiscent of what Apple did with iOS 16.

Apart from that, Samsung introduces a new collection of icons in its applications, with a three-dimensional appearance thanks to shadows and reflections that were not present in previous editions of One UI. The dynamic theme engine that was first introduced alongside Android 12 has also been improved , giving you the ability to choose from more different color schemes.

One UI 5 also introduces the new stacked widgets , which save space on the home screen by placing multiple widgets in the same space , and you can switch between them by swiping left or right.

Samsung has also focused on the privacy and security section , unifying the options of both categories in the same section within the settings application.

One UI 5 also introduces new health features, including Samsung's Privileged Health SDK, which gives developers more freedom to create apps that take advantage of the BioActive sensor found in the latest models in the Galaxy Watch family.

Samsung has confirmed that One UI 5 will begin its deployment at the end of this month of October. The Samsung Galaxy S22 will be the first models to receive the update, and the rest of the Samsung phones will follow with the confirmed update to Android 13.
