Many countries are proud of their coastlines, which play an important role in cultural, economic and military terms, and the following is a list of countries with the longest coastline in the world.
Countries with the longest coast
Canada has the longest coastline in the world, which is about 202,000 km (125 miles) on the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Arctic Ocean to the north.
Indonesia ranks second after Canada, and although it does not rank among the 10 largest countries in the world in terms of area, it has a long coastline of more than 99,000 km.
The reason for this length is primarily due to the large number of islands in Indonesia, which number more than 18 thousand islands, and about 14 thousand islands, according to United Nations estimates.
The largest country in the world, Russia, ranks fourth, with a coastline of 37,000 km, followed by the Philippines by about 36,000 km, and then Japan, Australia and the United States of America, respectively.
