Google claims Chrome is now faster than Safari on Mac

Google claims that their Chrome browser is faster than it used to be on Mac and Android. The M99 version of Chrome came out last week and includes a lot of performance tweaks. The new version of Chrome scored over 300 on the Speedometer test.

The Chromium Blog reports that internal improvements in the new version of Chrome M99 have allowed the browser to run faster overall. The company claims that Chrome is now "the fastest browser possible" as improvements are seen across multiple operating systems.

The Mac version of Chrome M99 scored higher than any other browser in the WebKit team 's Speedometer test . Safari scored between 277 and 279 on a test in which Chrome scored 300. Google claims that Chrome is now 7 percent faster than Safari and its graphics performance is 15 percent faster than Apple's browser. For the test, Google compared Safari 15.2 to Chrome M99 on a 2021 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M1 Max chip. The test configuration of the MacBook Pro had a 10-core processor and a 32-core GPU.

Google says that better performance is achieved by including a build optimization technique called ThinLTO . Since the launch of the browser for computers with M1 processors, Chrome has become 43% faster, according to the company. Chrome for Android also received an optimization that helped it become 15% faster.
