Chinese manufacturers have found an original way to deal with the shortage of video cards. Custom versions of the GeForce RTX 3060, which have already appeared on the domestic market, lack protection from mining and are cheaper than standard models. True, there were some drawbacks too - the new items are built on the basis of cut-down graphics processors for laptops.
According to the cnBeta portal , the modified video cards are based on the GA106 mobile chip, which works in conjunction with 6 GB of video memory versus 12 GB for the desktop model. The cooling system and the PCI-Express connector for "customs" look almost the same as for OEM models from other brands. Only the end panel with a single HDMI output of an unidentified revision gives out an atypical origin of the cards.
Judging by the quality of workmanship, the assembly of non-standard RTX 3060 takes place in the factory, but the brand behind this process is unknown. In addition to pictures of the novelty itself, the seller also published screenshots demonstrating its performance in mining. Due to the lack of LHR protection, the card “squeezes out” up to 50 MH / s when mining Ethereum.
According to the source, in the Chinese market, such video cards are sold at prices ranging from $545 to $570, depending on the batch size. There is no data on gaming power - presumably it is equal to the standard model for laptops. According to rumors, the same supplier promised to release a similar version of the RTX 3070, but this has not yet been confirmed online.
