The EU will introduce economic and personal sanctions against Belarus

The European Union (EU) will introduce a package of sanctions against individuals and the economy of Belarus for facilitating the Russian military operation in Ukraine. This was stated today, February 27, at a press conference in Brussels by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen.

“We will introduce restrictive measures against the most important sectors of the economy [of Belarus]. The export of products will be stopped. From minerals to tobacco, timber, cement, iron and steel. We will also extend to Belarus the export restrictions previously adopted against Russia on dual-use goods, ”said von der Leyen, quoted by TASS.

She added that sanctions would also be imposed against those Belarusians who contribute to the conduct of the military operation of the Russian Federation.

Recall that since February 24, the special military operation of Russia announced by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with the aim of demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine continues. The decision was made in response to the appeal of the leaders of the republics of Donbass. Putin stressed that Moscow's plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation stated that the Russian military does not strike at the cities of Ukraine, military infrastructure is disabled by high-precision means. Nothing threatens the civilian population, assured the military department.
