The fixture, the results and the possibilities for the last two places and the playoff position.
With Brazil and Argentina already classified , the dispute for the other two direct qualification positions, plus the position for the playoffs, are the great attraction in the final stretch of the South American qualifying round for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Ecuador was very close to meeting the goal, but behind there are four teams fighting for two places. Peru, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile are the selected ones that are still excited about getting a ticket to the World Cup.
The Chilean victory against Bolivia, by 3 to 2 , gave back hope to the trans-Andeans, while they wait for the games between Uruguay against Venezuela and Argentina against Colombia.
Ecuador could qualify if they beat Peru tonight , another team that would be well positioned with a victory. Colombia needs to beat Argentina in Córdoba to get back in the race.
The triumph of Chile against Bolivia, in La Paz
To increase the anxiety of a tense situation, the match between Chile and Bolivia was delayed by half an hour due to heavy rains that flooded the playing field. 15 minutes into the first half , Alexis Sánchez scored the first goal for the visiting team with a free kick . But at 36, the Cameroonian Marc François Enoumba (nationalized Bolivian), scored the 1-1, with a header, after a corner kick.
In the second half, and with only 15 minutes to play, all the emotions came together. Marcelino Núñez made it 2-1 for Chile at 31. And at 40, Alexis Sánchez extended the advantage. Marcelo Moreno Martins , with a header, discounted for Bolivia at 42, but it was not enough. With this result, the Trans-Andean team still dreams of qualifying for the World Cup.
Of course, the situation is still complex, since in the last window, they will have to visit Brazil and receive Uruguay, in what could be a direct heads-up to go to the World Cup.
Uruguay with Venezuela, in the Centennial
Another decisive match is the one that Uruguay and Venezuela are already playing , at the Centenario stadium, in Montevideo . The Uruguayan team, which on the last date achieved a great victory as a visitor against Paraguay (after five dates without wins), prevails 4-1.
Diego Alonso's team had no reason to suffer for the result. In the first minute of the game, a right foot by Rodrigo Bentancur made it 1-0 and calm from the start. Before the 24th minute was up, Giorgian de Arrascaeta scored the second, and Edinson Cavani scored the third at 46.
In the second half, Luis Suárez also had his chance, from a penalty, to make more of a difference against a powerless Venezuela in the face of such dominance. The Venezuelan discount was converted by Josef Martínez.
