Máximo Menem Bolocco spoke about his family, his pain and his illness: "They say I have my father's charm"

The son of Cecilia Bolocco and Carlos Menem gave an interview for a Chilean magazine and nothing was saved. He said that he does not have many memories of his father and revealed his last meeting: "I held his hand and talked for an hour without stopping"

Máximo Menem Bolocco is the son of former Chilean model and host Cecilia Bolocco and former Argentine president Carlos Menem . He is 18 years old, he admits that he is in good health after having a brain tumor removed in 2018 that subjected him to harsh medical treatment. And he assures that, in his environment, they tell him that he has the "charm" of his father, although he does not remember it.

“ I could never be alone with him. He didn't talk much either, he was old. I don't have many memories of him, because I didn't know him very well either. It is that he also had to go through Zulemita to get to talk to him , ”he said openly to Velvet magazine , which has him on the cover of its new edition.

Máximo was born in 2003 in Santiago de Chile and his parents, who had married in 2001, divorced in 2007. Since then, he had little contact with his father, who died on February 14, 2021, at the age of 90. .

Máximo, who is described as "an affectionate, cheerful and happy young man, who says he feels more free than ever", also spoke about his dreams and interests, his deepest pains and the illness that, he says, he does not keep in mind: “I don't remember that much. I felt bad and my mom sent me to the clinic (…) I never thought I was going to die. Never, never, never, never . I always knew I was going to be fine (…) Also, my mom was too calm or that's how she made me feel.”

When that happened, in November 2018, his father went to visit him during his hospitalization after the Argentine Justice authorized him to travel to Chile while the Federal Oral Criminal Court No. 2 investigated the cover-up of the AMIA attack. Menem also had to request authorization from the Chilean State to remain there, since a regulation prohibits the entry of people who have judicial convictions to that country.

“ I remember waking up and seeing him sitting there. I remember the image, but I didn't dimension anything else," said the young man, who also revealed details about the treatment carried out in the United States and the difficulties that he and his mother had during the first period of their stay in that country.

The first doctor he consulted, he says, did not have much sense in telling him about his illness, but the professional who finally treated him did. “In Memphis everything was different, the place, the attention. We rented a house and my mom made panoramas for me all day. She made that year beautiful. My mom died and she was born again. We became closer than ever and now we understand each other much better than before ”, he affirms.

Máximo confesses to having asked the doctor why he thinks he got sick. “He replied that he would get a Nobel if he knew. I think I had a very bad time in 2018 and this was the end of that bad experience , "he said in reference to the little relationship he had with his father.

“It was very difficult to contact him. In the end we called one of his custodians, but it was difficult, "he revealed and told about the trip that brought him to Argentina, which did not go as expected. “ I could never be alone with him. He didn't talk much either, he was old," he considered, and regarding the lack of a father figure, he said that " when I was a boy I saw my cousins play with their parents and I wondered why I didn't have mine, but then one grows up . My greatest father references are Pepo (Daire, Cecilia's partner) and Gonzalo Cisternas, the father of Diana's 2 eldest children. But I don't know much about my dad.

Without rancor, the youngest of Carlos Menem's sons detailed how the last meeting with his father was. “It was the only time I was able to be alone with him. I remember holding his hand and talking to him for an hour nonstop. And I know that he was listening to me, because in certain parts the monitor was disturbed ”.

"I didn't know him very well, but they say I inherited how charming they say I am . I would like to find out what my dad was like and why he was as charming as they say he was, ”he concluded.
