Insider users of Windows 11 reported an unexpected change in Microsoft's policy regarding the installation of the operating system. As it turned out, the company intends to oblige PC owners to use a corporate account instead of a local one.
The innovation was noticed in the test build of Windows 11 Insider Preview 22557. Previously, you could install Windows 11 offline with a local account, but this option has disappeared in the new build. Now the regular installer requires a mandatory Internet connection and a Microsoft account to complete the OS installation process. It is known that such conditions are relevant for Windows 11 Pro, changes in the Home version are not reported.
Signing in with a linked account is often required to use app stores, cloud storage, sync across devices, and other features. However, Windows 11 may be the only major operating system that requires mandatory authorization to access the system. Apple allows you to create a local account when you install macOS, and ChromeOS has a simplified guest mode.
When such changes will appear in the stable version of Windows 11 is still unknown.
