A world record was set in the figure skating team event on Friday, and it came from the host nation.

China dazzled in the third segment of Friday's session: pair skating. Sui Wenjing and Han Cong, skating to the music from the movie "Mission: Impossible 2", set a short program world record of 82.83 points.

After three segments of the total of eight, the United States leads with 28 points. The ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) has 26 points, while China is in third place with 21 points. The team event is scheduled to conclude on Monday.

Kicking off the team event on Friday, US men's figure skater Nathan Chen put the US in the lead with his performance in the men's singles short skating portion of the program. Chen, a three-time world champion at just 22 years old, posted a personal best of 111.71 to give Team USA 10 points.

Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue extended Team USA's lead, adding 10 points for their best performance in the ice dance rhythmic dance portion of the team competition.
