ATP Montpellier: David Goffin, defending champion, eliminated in the 2nd round

It's already over for David Goffin (ATP 52) at  the Open Sud de France, ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier . Defending champion, the Belgian was beaten in the second round by Frenchman  Adrian Mannarino (ATP 58) in two sets 6-2, 6-4 in 1h29 of play.

Mannarino will face in the quarter-finals either the German Alexander Zverev (ATP 3/N.1) or the American Mackenzie McDonald (ATP 56).

Led to the score Monday for his entry into the running, Goffin had finally beaten 2-6, 7-5 and 6-1 the French Benjamin Bonzi (ATP 68). The career of the Liégeois at the Open Sud de France this time stopped in the 2nd round, against an Adrian Mannarino who has just reached the round of 16 of the Australian Open, released by Rafael Nadal . Goffin had not passed the first round in Melbourne, taking the front door against the Briton Daniel Evans .

David Goffin won his fifth and last ATP title last year in Montpellier. His defeat in the 2nd round should therefore be worth a further decline in the ATP rankings for Liégeois, he who had left the top 50 for the first time since 2014 after the 1st Grand Slam lift.
