The unique ship PowerX will produce energy on the high seas [VIDEO]

In Japan, the process of developing a unique power plant in the form of a ship has started. It will be charged by strong offshore winds and then transport the collected energy to land. For this purpose, the ship is equipped with a powerful 220 MWh battery.

The concept is being developed by PowerX together with the shipbuilding company Imabari Shipbuilding. The first prototype, called Power ARK, should be released by the end of 2025. The futuristic vessel will be powered by electricity and biodiesel, and a huge 220 MWh battery will store the energy collected from the wind on the high seas and deliver it to Japan. According to the authors of the project, this is enough to power about 22,000 Japanese homes during the day.

According to the agreement, Imabari Shipbuilding has already invested 1 billion yen (approximately 655.4 million rubles) in this project. There will also be collaborations with other third parties in the construction of the ship. The battery storage system and associated systems will be produced directly by PowerX.

In addition to the ship, an automated plant will also be built to assemble batteries in Japan from external battery cells. The annual production capacity of 1 GWh is already planned for 2024. By 2028, it is planned to increase it to 5 GWh. The battery systems produced there will be used for the production of marine vessels, fast charging systems for electric vehicles and data storage systems.
