The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation calculated the damage caused to the Russians through remote fraud methods using phone calls and the Internet. In total, almost half a million cases of deception were recorded.
According to Danil Filippov, Colonel of Justice and Deputy Head of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, for 11 months of 2021, 494 thousand cases of telephone and Internet fraud were recorded in the amount of 45 billion rubles. According to him, law enforcement agencies have managed to slow the growth of such types of deception.
“The dynamics for six months of growth in cybercrimes was observed at a rate of 20%. However, over the period of 11 months, it was possible to significantly reduce it, and the dynamics is observed in the region of 7%, ”noted Danil Filippov.
Earlier, the publication "Kommersant", referring to data from the research company BrandMonitor, reported 150 billion rubles, earned by telephone and Internet fraudsters last year. However, it should be borne in mind that the Ministry of Internal Affairs takes into account the established damage in criminal cases, while BrandMonitor determines the approximate damage based on sociological data.
Earlier it became known about a new type of fraud , when people themselves call cybercriminals. In addition, the number of calls from fraudulent robots has increased 35 times in Russia .
