Hyundai disbanded its internal combustion engine division - all forces are thrown on electric motors

The Volkswagen concern, in accordance with the requirement proposed by the European authorities, is ready to abandon the sale of cars with internal combustion engines in the region by 2035, and the Audi brand has already stopped developing new models of power plants of this type. The concern BMW previously reported that by 2024 it will stop producing internal combustion engines at its main plant in Munich, although their production will continue at the company's plants in Austria and the UK. On the other side of the ocean, similar thoughts are also being implemented in the plans of automakers - from now on, the Cadillac brand will equip all new models only with electric motors. According to Business Korea, South Korean giant Hyundai Motor is also ready to abandon the development of new internal combustion engines now. According to the source, at the headquarters of Hyundai Motor Group, the engine development division has been disbanded, and therefore all new vehicle models will be equipped only with environmentally friendly types of power plants. This, of course, does not negate the possibility of maintaining the production of existing ICE models for as long as the market demands.

A massive transformation within the Hyundai R&D center will direct the efforts of nearly 12,000 employees to create electric vehicles, associated propulsion systems and traction batteries. The last area will be dealt with by a separate structure within the company. Additional reforms aim to shorten the development time of electric vehicles as much as possible by increasing the efficiency of interaction between development teams.
