Samsung develops LPDDR5X DRAM for 5G and AI systems

Samsung Electronics today announced the development of the industry's first 14nm 16Gb Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) DRAM chips.

The announced products are focused on devices with support for fifth generation (5G) mobile communications, artificial intelligence (AI) systems, servers, automotive platforms, etc.

LPDDR5X memory provides data transfer rates up to 8.5Gbps. This is about 1.3 times the bandwidth of LPDDR5 products, which deliver results at 6.4 Gbps. Thanks to the use of 14nm manufacturing technology, memory power consumption was reduced by 20% compared to solutions of the LPDDR5 standard.

On the basis of 16-gigabit LPDDR5X chips, RAM modules with a capacity of up to 64 GB can be created.

It is assumed that the new memory will help in the development of the concept of "digital reality", which provides for the introduction of AI technologies, machine learning and augmented reality (AR) in various spheres of life.
