NVIDIA has limited the frame rate of some games in GeForce Now

NVIDIA GeForce Now is a cloud-based platform that allows users to remotely interact with games using low-performance devices. This week, users of the service noticed that in some games on the platform, the frame rate is limited, including when using the Priority tariff.

NVIDIA later posted additional information on the platform's support site, explaining the need for consistent performance. The practice of limiting the frame rate affects 12 games that are especially demanding on resources. It turned out that in games from the list, 50 frames per second is the maximum indicator, as users said earlier. It seems that NVIDIA has been using this practice for a long time, since reports that when playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the GeForce Now platform, 45 frames per second was the maximum value, appeared back in December 2020. The situation is somewhat better in Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Immortals Fenyx Rising and other games, but even there 50 frames per second is the maximum that the service is ready to offer users.

“For our users on the Priority plan, the maximum number of frames per second is usually set to 60 and higher for most of the more than 1,100 games that are currently available. There are some exceptions that we have determined do not perform well at 60fps on GPUs available to Priority members. So the default frames per second for these specific graphics intensive games cannot be changed. This is done so that Priority users can get a permanent and high-quality experience, ” NVIDIA said in a statement.

According to the available data, the mentioned restrictions do not apply to the most expensive tariff RTX 3080. Currently NVIDIA does not see the need to introduce restrictions on the frame rate at this tariff, but does not exclude that it may appear in the future.
