McAfee sold for $ 14 billion

Security software company McAfee went privately by a group of investors in a deal worth more than $ 14 billion. Bloomberg reported on the preparation of the deal last week.

McAfee was founded in 1987 by John McAfee and is best known for its antivirus software. The founder left the company in 1994. In 2010, McAfee was acquired by Intel for $ 7.68 billion. In 2014, Intel announced that it was discontinuing the McAfee trademark for antivirus software and renaming it Intel Security.

In October last year, the company returned to the public stock market. McAfee said in a statement that after selling its corporate business to private equity firm Symphony Technology Group for $ 4 billion in July, it will continue as a company that specializes "exclusively in consumer cybersecurity."

The company said the deal, announced today, will close in the first half of 2022. Its new owner will be a group of investors, which includes Advent International Corp., Permira Advisers and Crosspoint Capital Partners.
