Gigabyte has unveiled the Z690M DS3H DDR4 motherboard as an affordable alternative for those looking to build a low-cost system based on Intel's new Alder Lake processors. A distinctive feature of the new product is the lack of support for the PCIe 5.0 bus. This is the first motherboard on the Intel Z690 chipset of its kind.
At the moment, the price of the most affordable motherboards based on the Intel Z690 chipset starts at $ 200. A year ago, this territory belonged to the middle segment of solutions. At the same time, the shortage of semiconductors is not the only factor that increases the final price of the product. There is a significant difference between cards that support PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 5.0. The latter use more layers of PCB and better materials to ensure a stable connection between the processor, video card and chipset. A similar feature was noted for AMD boards with the old and new versions of the X570 (X570S) chipset. The latter have added support for PCIe 4.0 lines not only at the processor level, but also at the chipset level, which ultimately made them more expensive compared to previous models.
An additional factor that makes Gigabyte Z690M DS3H a more affordable alternative to other solutions is the lack of support for the new DDR5 standard RAM. In addition, the board is made in a compact Micro-ATX form factor and is equipped with a simpler power subsystem compared to older solutions based on the Intel Z690 chipset from the same Gigabyte.
The equipment of the new items includes one PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, two PCIe 3.0 x1, two M.2 slots with PCIe 4.0 support. On the rear panel of the novelty, there are three USB 3.0 ports, one USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C, two USB 2.0, as well as four video connectors: one VGA and one HDMI and two DisplayPort.
The manufacturer has not announced the official price of the Gigabyte Z690M DS3H DDR4 yet. However, the board has already appeared on his website. It is very likely that its appearance in stores will not be long in coming.
