A year ago, it became known about the intentions of the Chinese automaker GAC to begin testing electric vehicles based on batteries using graphene, which not only allow to increase the range, but also to speed up the charging process. It seems that the upcoming Aion LX Plus crossover will receive just such a battery, since the car has a declared cruising range of more than 1000 km.
Elon Musk recently said that there is little point in creating electric vehicles with a power reserve of more than 500-600 km, because few people drive more without stopping, and the rest break between the sections of the path can be used to recharge the traction battery. That doesn't stop Tesla's competitors from building electric vehicles with more impressive range per charge. For example, in China, the Aion LX Plus crossover is already undergoing certification, for which the declared performance reaches 1008 km according to the conditional NEDC cycle.
The electric vehicle's traction battery, Electrek suggests , should be based on advanced lithium batteries that combine nickel, cobalt, manganese and aluminum. The main innovation should be the use of spongy graphene, which not only increases the charge storage density, but also allows the use of higher charging currents. The size of the battery can be reduced by 20% and its weight by 14%.
Compared to the previous Aion LX crossover, in the Plus version, the dimensions of the traction battery have not changed, and the range has increased from 650 to 1008 km. The traction battery capacity of the new version reaches 144 kWh. The crossover's formal debut is set to take place at an event on November 19. Accumulators of a new type , according to the information previously disseminated, make it possible to replenish the charge from zero to 80% in eight minutes. The GAC is planning to expand its 450 kW charging network, which will further reduce charging times.
