SD card slot speed on new MacBook Pros capped at 250MB / s

Apple previously confirmed that the SD card slot in the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro supports UHS-II . In theory, the standard has write and read speeds of up to 312MB / s, but the Apple slot only supports speeds up to 250MB / s.

Some hoped that the slot would support UHS-III speeds up to 624MB / s, but this is not the case.

The SD card slot in MacBook Pro supports transfer rates up to 250MB / s. For UHS-I cards, speeds up to 90 MB / s are available.

The slot in the new MacBook Pro supports 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB cards. Bringing the slot back to laptops is especially beneficial for photographers and operators as it will allow them to quickly transfer files without using an adapter.

The SD card slot is one of three new ports on the MacBook Pro . Along with it came an HDMI 2.0 port and a MagSafe connector. Laptops also have three Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone output.
