Microsoft claims that the hackers behind the Solar Windows attack, known as the Nobelium group, have targeted IT supply companies around the world with a similar approach to their previous attacks. The company says that so far 140 vendors and service providers in the field of technology in the world have been the target of these attacks and 14 of them have been hacked.
Microsoft cybersecurity experts say the hacker group Nobleium, which may be affiliated with Russia and has carried out Windows Solar attacks, is attacking large technology companies around the world. Tom Burt, Microsoft's senior vice president of customer security and trust, says Nobelium is trying to penetrate the global IT supply chain with an approach similar to its previous attacks.
"Hackers are now attacking a different part of the supply chain: vendors and service providers who personalize, implement and manage cloud services and other IT services on behalf of customers," Burt wrote in a post on Microsoft Blog.
The Microsoft CEO claims that Nobelium hopes to gain access to customer information provided to vendors and service providers through this attack. This makes it easier for hackers to position themselves as trusted companies in the tech world and gain access to customer systems.
Nobelium uses phishing emails in these attacks, a technique called password spraying. In this technique, common passwords such as 1234 and password are tested on several accounts and then the next password is tested. Since May 2021, Microsoft has been monitoring the latest Nobel attack campaign and notifying affected partners and customers.
The Redmondians say Nobelium has attacked 140 companies so far, of which only 14 companies have been compromised. "The recent attack shows once again that Russia is seeking long-term and systematic access to various parts of the technology supply chain and establishing a mechanism to monitor goals that are important - now or in the future - for the government," he said. .
