Drug cartels recruit children into gangs using chat rooms in GTA V, Free Fire and Call of Duty. Mexican Deputy Minister of Public Security Ricardo Mejia spoke about the criminal scheme during a press conference.
This week, the Mexican government announced the rescue of three children. The attackers contacted them in the Free Fire chat and, pretending to be newbies, asked them to help them get used to the game. This is how the criminals rubbed in trust. After establishing contact, recruiters offered a dusty part-time job: listening to police frequencies. For two weeks the wiretapping promised to pay 16 thousand pesos (about 56 thousand rubles).
Fortunately, the boys were found by the police before they boarded the bus in the southern state of Oaxaca. Ricardo Mejia noted that kidnapping of boys is not an isolated case. The authorities have information that drug cartels also use in-game chats in Call of Duty, Gears of War and Grand Theft Auto V.
