After releasing several teasers, Mercedes has finally unveiled the seventh generation SL. This generation of the popular German roadster has undergone extensive changes, both in appearance and in technology, and can be considered an almost complete package of beauty, power and quality. The new SL is actually a product of Mercedes AMG and will first enter the market in two versions, SL 55 and SL63. Both versions are equipped with the same 4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine from the famous Mercedes AMG.
The seventh generation Mercedes SL has nothing in common with its predecessor. A new platform has been used to build this generation; The metal used in this platform is different in different parts and is made of aluminum, steel, magnesium and composite.
With a length of 4705 mm and a wheelbase of 2700 mm, the SL 2022 is 74 mm longer than the previous generation and its wheelbase has increased by 115 mm. This generation is 154 mm longer than the successor AMG GT Roadster.
The Mercedes AMG SL 2022 is similar in design to the CLS, as its main headlights have a triangular frame. This beautiful roadster, who is now a member of the AMG family, has found a rough yet attractive face with the famous Panamerican windshield. In general, the new generation SL feels more like an evolved version of the AMG GT than its predecessor.
The new generation SL no longer has the word Benz in its name
On the rear, the SL 2022 bears similarities to the four-door AMG GT. In this section, we see the installation of a moving spoiler. This spoiler adjusts in 5 modes depending on its speed. Complementing the function of this spoiler is the optional aerodynamic package, which if ordered, the blades and a small spoiler will be added to the front bumper. This package generates 50 kg of downforce when traveling at 155 mph or 250 km/h.
The AMG SL 2022 cabin was already unveiled in July and we are more or less familiar with its specifications. There is no hyperscreen in this generation and the infotainment system is managed via a 11.9-inch stand-alone touch screen. This display is adjustable and its angle varies between 12 to 32 degrees. On the back of the steering wheel is a large 12.3-inch screen that is responsible for providing the information needed by the driver. To complete the function of this display, the augmented reality-based display headup system has been used.
Mercedes AMG emphasizes that the cabin of the SL 2022 is of high quality and that this car benefits from a lot of equipment as standard. The Airscarf system is one of these devices that transmits the flow of hot air through the ducts under the back of the head, around the necks of the front passengers. The electric seats of this car are of the sports type, but if the customer orders, AMG performance seats will replace them.
And technical specifications; As we mentioned at the beginning, the SL 2022 will initially be available in two versions, 55 and 63. Both versions are powered by the same M177 engine.
This V8 engine, which is used in a wide range of AMG products, has a volume of 4 liters and is adjusted in the SL 55 version so that it can produce 470 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque. But in the SL 55 version, this engine is capable of producing 577 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque. Both engines work with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
Red model SL 63, gray model SL 55
The base model SL 55 takes 3.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h. This figure is 3.6 seconds for the SL 63; The maximum speed of these two is 294 and 315 kilometers per hour, respectively.
The Mercedes AMG SL 2022 uses an advanced five-link suspension on the front axle. Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard on this generation, and like the S-Class W223, the rear wheels are steerable. These wheels are adjusted so that up to 100 km / h, they are angled against the front wheels and at higher speeds, they are angled according to the front wheels.
For the first time, the SL bears the 4Matic + logo, meaning that engine power is transmitted to all four wheels.
The differences between the SL 63 and SL 55 include the air suspension and active overturning bars in the more powerful model. In the base model SL 55, shock absorbers are common.
Although the Mercedes AMG SL 2022 is a 2 + 2 car, its rear seats do not work for adult occupants. According to the Germans, only people with a maximum height of 1.5 meters can sit in the back of this beautiful roadster; In other words, the SL 2022 rear seats are designed for children and toddlers!
This generation of SL, unlike the previous generation, which was equipped with a metal roof, has a three-layer fabric roof. Using this type of roof has reduced the total weight of the car by 21 kg and takes up less space in the trunk. Mercedes AMG says that when moving with the roof open, two golf bags can be easily put in the trunk. In the previous generation, a golf bag took up a lot of space.
The use of fabric roofs has another advantage, which is to reduce the center of gravity and consequently improve the handling of the car. The roof opens or closes at a maximum speed of 60 km / h in 15 seconds, which is 5 seconds faster than the previous generation.
In general, it should be said that Mercedes AMG with SL 2022 has drawn a narrow line between a sports car and a luxury car. There is no word yet on the exact release date and price of this generation, but it is estimated that it will cost around هزار 100,000 to buy the SL 63.
If this prediction is correct, the SL 63 will have to compete with the convertible and Targa versions of the Porsche 911, a competition that will be spectacular in its own right.
