Honda Civic Si introduced; A sports economy sedan with a focus on handling

Honda unveiled the 2022 Civic Si. This version, which is the symbol of an economy sports car, according to Honda, offers the best handling and the most equipment in its class. Under the hood of this version is a 1.5-liter turbo engine with the ability to produce 200 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. The power of this engine is directed to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Although the output of the new generation Civic Si is lower than the previous generation of 5 horsepower, Honda says that the power transmission has been improved and this generation will be better in practice. It is important to note that the maximum torque of this generation is available to the driver from less than 300 rpm. In addition, the Civic Si engine maintains more power at higher revs - between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm.

As the flywheel weighs 26% lighter, the engine responds faster, and thanks to the new Civic Si 2022 exhaust system, the sound is more catchy and sportier. This system has 27% better performance in terms of exhaust gas transmission. Honda has also resorted to artificial sound through speakers to inject more excitement into the cabin occupants.

The six-speed manual transmission used in the Civic Si 2022 is also new. The gear distances in this gearbox are 10% shorter than the previous gearbox and it is now equipped with an engine speed adjustment system borrowed from the Civic Type R. This gearbox responds to a sudden acceleration of the accelerator pedal when the Sport mode is activated in just 430 milliseconds.

You may know that the body of the new generation Honda Civic has 8% more torsional resistance and its bending resistance is 13% better than the previous generation. This is doubly important considering the 12.7 mm increase in vehicle width and the 35.5 mm increase in wheelbase.

To achieve a sportier performance, Honda has also redesigned the suspension, standardizing the front axle by 8% and the rear axle by 54% stiffer than the Civic. Honda emphasizes that the Si suspension system is specially tuned for this car, and due to this feature and the use of thicker balance bars, its handling and body stability are at a very high level.

The Civic Si 2022 uses larger brake discs. The discs of this version are 12.3 inches at the front and 11.1 inches at the rear, and are 1.2 and 0.9 inches larger in diameter compared to the standard Civic, respectively. The car comes standard with 235 / 40R18 four-season tires, but if needed, summer tires can be ordered as an option.

In terms of appearance, the Civic Si differs from the standard model. For example, the front bumper is more aggressive and the rear bumper has been redesigned to accommodate two exhaust outlets. This version is also equipped with front and rear spoilers to increase its stability at high speeds; While the mirrors have a glossy black frame. LED front and rear lights and 18-inch 10-spoke rims in matte black are other features of this version of the Civic, while the orange color in the images is used only for the Si version.

Inside the cabin, sports seats with integrated backrests and better shoulder and thigh support, sports pedals, red stitching, gearshift lever, a 7-inch display behind the steering wheel and a 9-inch display of the infotainment system are notable. This display supports Apple CarPlay and Android Otto wirelessly. The Civic Si also benefits from a 12-speaker Bose audio system.

Honda plans to launch the Civic Si 2022 in dealerships by the end of this year. Unfortunately, there is no word on the price at the moment, but to find out the base model of this popular Japanese car, it is worth about $ 22,000.
