EA Sports is considering abandoning the FIFA brand in the title of its football video games.
Patent applications filed in the UK and European Union seem to indicate that the producer already has a new name for one of their most played titles.
The announcement of the name change was made by Electronic Arts itself
Apparently, the game of Electronic Arts’ most played football will even change its name, dropping the word FIFA. The communication appeared in an EA Sports publication celebrating the success of the launch of FIFA 17 which already has 9.1 million players.
The publication signed by the group’s general manager, Cam Webber, says that the brand is exploring the idea of renaming its football games. According to the same Webber publication, this means they are “reviewing the name rights agreement with FIFA”, something that “is separate from all other official partnerships and licenses in the football world”.
This specific part of the ad came to reassure fans, as the brand is ensuring that the next title will keep the more of thousand athletes from more than 100 football clubs, as well as the current ones 100 stadiums and more than 700 leagues.
Title for 700 can be called EA Sports FC
However, patent applications filed in the UK and the European Union are giving rise to rumors that the next title to 2023 may be renamed EA Sports FC. For now, it doesn’t stick around, but with millions of players involved it’s quite possible that the name will quickly gain popularity.
Since 700 that EA Sports video games dedicated to football include the word FIFA in their name. However, over the years the name of the International Football Federation has suffered several shakes, due to the fact that senior officials of this association have been accused of corruption. Sony was one of the brands that dropped FIFA sponsorship and EA Sports may be revisiting the name for the same reason.
On the other hand, Electronic Arts may also be following the lead of FIFA. its competitor Konami who recently changed the name of Pro Evolution Soccer to eFootball.
