Microsoft gave up: Windows 11 will work on older computers

Microsoft went to meet users, announcing that the new operating system Windows 11 can still be installed on older computers, the characteristics of which do not meet the previously announced requirements . True, in this case you will have to face some inconveniences.

The initially announced system requirements for the installation of Windows 11 caused a heated discussion among users, since even the owners of rather powerful devices were left behind. The company explained this by concern for security , adding that it will fight in every possible way with all methods of installing a new OS on incompatible hardware. Now the Redmond corporation has backed down.

According to the new announcement , Windows 11 can still be installed on computers whose processors do not meet official requirements and will not be tested for compatibility in the proprietary PC Health Check utility. However, in this case, users will not be able to simply update their Windows 10 PC to Windows 11 through the built-in Update Center. Instead, owners of "incompatible" computers will need to download an ISO image of the system and perform a manual installation.

In addition, Microsoft has conducted additional tests and added Intel Core X-series, Xeon W-series and Intel Core 7820HQ chips to the list of officially supported processors. In the case of the latter, there is still a requirement to support modern drivers. As for AMD chips, there will be no changes in this regard: the first generation Ryzen will not support automatic updates.
