China detained 469 scammers pretending to be women in games

The largest gang of online criminals has been exposed in the Celestial Empire. About five hundred men impersonate women in online games in order to shake as much money out of users as possible.

The scammers looked for men on social networks: they added them as friends, and then offered to register in the games. Victims were tricked into buying in-game items and spending money on virtual weddings. The victims willingly parted with the yuan, and all because the criminal scheme involved real women. To lull the vigilance, the ladies-accomplices recorded video and audio messages, sometimes called up in chats.

More than 350 police officers participated in the major arrest operation, and the raid itself took place simultaneously in 35 cities and 17 provinces. The catch of law enforcement agencies is staggering - 469 detainees.
