As the media hype around the new Google Pixel 6 smartphones, more and more is becoming known about the technology used by the models. So, it turned out the name of the manufacturer of mobile platforms Google Tensor, on which new items are supposed to be built.
According to Nikkei , the Tensor will be manufactured by Samsung in accordance with the 5nm manufacturing process. This is not surprising, since there is information that the Tensor platform was developed by Google in cooperation with Samsung.
According to sources, the same 5-nm technical process will be used that is used in the production of the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and even the Exynos 1080/2100 mobile platforms produced by Samsung itself.
Google itself has not confirmed information about the executor of orders for chipsets, formerly codenamed Whitechapel, and now - Tensor, and Samsung refrained from comment in response to a media request. At the same time, there are not many contractors on the market who are able to fulfill an order of this level. The South Korean giant is one of the few with adequate manufacturing capacity.
If Tensor is indeed built on a 5nm process, the platform could indeed be much more efficient than the 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G used in Pixel 5 models today. According to Google, Tensor has been in development for four years "specifically for the Pixel." therefore, it will most likely only be used by Google in its own products.
